How to Reduce Traffic Congestion in Baku During Road Construction? Expert Urges AAYDA to Implement Mobile Overpasses

47

It has long been known that during road repairs in urban environments, full or partial closures of certain streets and avenues create serious difficulties for drivers. Due to the dense existing development of Baku, this topic has become a truly chronic problem in modern times.
Especially in areas with high traffic volume, such restrictions in our capital lead to massive traffic jams and a colossal additional load on alternative routes, which almost all domestic media outlets have been reporting on for years. However, no qualitative changes have yet occurred in the organization of road repairs itself.
In this regard, the opinion of transportation expert Rauf Agamirzayev, which he expressed recently, deserves special attention: a complete shutdown of traffic during road construction should not be the only solution.
According to the specialist, to solve this problem, Baku needs to use modern technologies applied in different countries around the world, including mobile structures that create a temporary roadway above the section under repair.

"An example of this is the experience of the Swiss company ASTRA. Such structures allow vehicles to continue moving above the repaired section, while workers can safely perform roadworks in a protected area below," Rauf Agamirzayev noted.

According to reports, the [ASTRA Bridge](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=/g/11q8jvpp1v) mobile complex, which is 257 meters long, is capable of supporting an active flow of cars in two lanes and allows vehicles to drive directly over the construction zone at speeds up to 60 km/h.
Benefits and Key Locations of This Technology for AAYDA in Baku:
TOP 3 BAKU AVENUES FOR MOBILE OVERPASSES

Ziya Bunyadov Ave.
* The Problem: The city's main transit artery. Any road defect blocks traffic all the way from the "20 January" roundabout to the "Koroglu" metro station.
* The Effect: Roadbed repairs without halting cargo and transit traffic.

* Heydar Aliyev Ave.
* The Problem: The main gateway to the capital from the airport. Road closures create gridlocks for city guests and suburban commuters.
   * The Effect: Maintaining the capital's image and high traffic speeds (up to 60 km/h) even within the construction zone.
Tbilisi Avenue
* The Problem: Dense urban development, narrow alternative exits. Detours instantly paralyze the city center.
   * The Effect: Carrying out roadworks during the day without risking the daily schedules of thousands of citizens.

"The main advantage of this approach is that the need for a complete road closure is reduced. As a result, repair work can be carried out during the day, reducing the need for night shifts and additional traffic restrictions. Redirecting drivers to alternative routes is minimized, and the road's capacity is fully maintained throughout the construction period," the expert emphasized.
Capital residents can only hope that such a qualified expert opinion will be heard, gaining understanding and support from the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads (AAYDA).
