International community condemns Iran’s drone attack on Azerbaijan

The international community has strongly condemned Iran’s attack on civilian infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Officials from various countries and international organizations have expressed solidarity with Azerbaijan and denounced the aggression.

United Kingdom: UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Fergus Auld wrote on social media that the strike by two Iranian drones on Nakhchivan is completely unacceptable. “The UK firmly condemns any action threatening Azerbaijan’s security. We stand fully with Azerbaijan and the affected parties. The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation,” he said.

Qatar: Qatar’s Foreign Ministry condemned the targeting of Azerbaijan’s airport and Turkiye by Iranian UAVs, describing the attacks as acts of hostility and violations of sovereignty, threatening regional security and stability. Qatar reiterated its full support for Turkey and Azerbaijan, emphasizing their right to protect their sovereignty, security, and citizens.

Lithuania: Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys strongly condemned Iran’s UAV strikes on civilian infrastructure in Nakhchivan and affirmed Lithuania’s solidarity with Azerbaijan.

Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned Iran’s attempts to target the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan, describing the actions as a blatant violation of international law and universally accepted norms. The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated that these cowardly attacks reflect an unjustifiable hostile stance and that repeated aggressive behavior by Iran toward regional countries exacerbates tensions and threatens regional security and stability.

The statement also emphasized that the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stand fully in solidarity with Turkey and Azerbaijan, supporting both countries’ right to protect their security, airspace, territorial integrity, and citizens. The Ministry further commended efforts to prevent escalation in the region and to maintain safety and stability.

Moldova: Moldova condemned the UAV attacks targeting Nakhchivan’s civilian facilities, which injured two people. Foreign Minister Mihail Popșoi reaffirmed Moldova’s solidarity with Azerbaijan and support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Turkiye: The Turkish Foreign Ministry sharply condemned the UAV attacks on Nakhchivan, stressing the urgency of halting actions that target third countries and escalate conflict. Türkiye reiterated its ongoing support for Azerbaijan.

Kuwait: Kuwait condemned Iran’s targeting of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, describing the attacks as clear violations of international law and the UN Charter, and reaffirmed its solidarity with both countries.

Georgia: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has issued a statement condemning the drone attack on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which resulted in injuries to several civilians. The Georgian Foreign Ministry emphasized that any actions that grossly violate the principles and norms of international law and escalate tensions in the region are unacceptable.

The statement added: “In light of our strong friendship and strategic partnership, Georgia expresses its solidarity with brotherly Azerbaijan in this difficult situation.”

Kazakhstan: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev condemned the UAV attacks on Nakhchivan Airport, calling them acts against Azerbaijan as a brother and ally.

Ukraine: Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned Iran’s attacks on Azerbaijan, emphasizing that they demonstrate Iran’s role as a regional and global threat.

France: France is among the countries that have strongly condemned Iran’s drone attack on Azerbaijan.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on its “X” account: “France strongly condemns the attack carried out by Iranian drones this morning on Nakhchivan International Airport in Azerbaijan. We wish a speedy recovery to the four people injured in the attack.”

Sophie Lagut, France’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, also condemned the drone strike on Nakhchivan.

On her “X” account, the ambassador wrote: “The drone attacks carried out this afternoon against Nakhchivan are an unacceptable act against Azerbaijan’s security and territorial integrity. I strongly condemn this action that undermines regional stability and violates international law. My thoughts and solidarity are with those affected by the incident, especially the four injured, whom I wish a speedy recovery.”

International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO): The Permanent Secretariat expressed deep concern over the attacks on Azerbaijan, affirmed full solidarity with the government and people, and emphasized the protection of civilians and critical services as a top priority.

Other Responses: Foreign ministers and officials from Uzbekistan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkiye, Pakistan, and Israel contacted Jeyhun Bayramov to express deep concern and solidarity with Azerbaijan over the attacks.

These statements reflect the widespread international condemnation of Iran’s aggression and a unified message of support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and civilian protection.
