Azerbaijan National NGO Forum gains official observer status at United Nations Environment Programme

37

The National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan (NNFA) has been granted official observer status at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and its governing bodies.

According to an official notification from Radhika Ochalik, Director of the Governance Affairs Office of UNEP, the decision was finalized following a comprehensive evaluation of the Forum’s credentials and documentation. The accreditation entitles the NNFA to participate as an observer in all open meetings and sessions of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) and its subsidiary bodies.

Ramil Iskandarli, Chairman of the Board of the NNFA, stated that the recognition underscores the growing international prestige of Azerbaijani civil society and enhances opportunities for domestic non-governmental organizations to engage in global governance.

This status will allow the NNFA to contribute directly to international deliberations on climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development while presenting the Azerbaijani civil society perspective on global platforms. In accordance with UNEP operational rules, accredited observers are required to submit quadrennial activity reports to the UNEP Secretariat.
