Results of the Green and Red Line Separation Project between "Nizami" and "28 May" Stations
In September 2026, the number of passengers on the Baku Metro decreased by approximately 30% compared to the same period last year.
According to Day.Az, this was reported by "Baku Metro" CJSC in response to an inquiry by Trend.
It is noted that a comparison of daily indicators shows a noticeable change in passenger traffic after August 15.
"During the first 14 days of August, the number of transported passengers remained practically unchanged compared to the same period last year, and even increased by 0.6%. In the second half of August, passenger traffic was approximately 28% lower than in the corresponding period of last year. A decrease of approximately 30% was also recorded in September," the report states.
The CJSC emphasized that these changes are expected and natural, taking into account the specifics of the line separation project implementation process.
It should be noted that due to tunnel works carried out within the framework of the project to separate the Green and Red lines, train movement between "Nizami" and "28 May" stations has been suspended since August 15. The construction phase is expected to last about 10–11 months.
The project is being implemented based on the State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in the City of Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030, approved by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev.
As a result of the line separation, it is planned to eliminate the existing dependency between them, reduce station congestion, shorten train intervals, and ensure more stable traffic organization in the metro.
After the completion of the works, passengers heading towards "Icherisheher" station will use the platform of "28 May" station, while those heading towards "Darnagul" will use the platform of "Jafar Jabbarli" station.
