Celebration of Azerbaijani culture in Switzerland: Gala concert on the Montreux stage
As part of the Septembre Musical Montreux-Vevey festival, a gala concert featuring Azerbaijani artists was held at Montreux's renowned Auditorium Stravinski on September 14.
The two-part program opened with the "Overture" from Uzeyir Hajibeyli's opera Koroghlu, brilliantly performed by the Uzeyir Hajibeyli Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Fuad Ibrahimov.
Accompanied by the orchestra, the concert program featured Gara Garayev’s "Waltz" from the ballet Seven Beauties, Agshin Alizade’s "Jangi," Fikrat Amirov’s "Azerbaijan Capriccio," Niyazi’s "Concert Waltz," and Arif Malikov’s "Dance of Turkish women" from the ballet The Legend of Love.
At the musical evening, People's Artist Alim Gasimov sang the folk song "Garagila," while Fagan Alasgarov (balaban) and Medina Shahgeldiyeva (kamancha) performed "Sari Gelin." The Azerbaijan State Dance Ensemble rounded out the stage with performances of Eldar Mansurov's "Odlar Yurdu" (The Land of Fires) and the folk dance "Uzundara."
The gala concert concluded with the joint performance of all soloists singing "Azerbaijan" by Muslim Magomayev.
A true celebration of Azerbaijan’s rich culture, the evening left a lasting impression on foreign art lovers and was met with enthusiastic applause.
