New Year and World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day celebrated in Stockholm
A festive event dedicated to New Year and World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day was held in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
Organized by the Sweden-Azerbaijan Union (SAF) and the Azerbaijan Culture Association, the event brought together diaspora representatives from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Syria. The ceremony began with the performance of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan.
In their opening remarks, SAF Chairwoman Sevda Dadashova and Chairman of the Azerbaijan Culture Association Samad Ilkinli welcomed the guests and emphasized that preserving Azerbaijanis’ greatest wealth – solidarity - as well as safeguarding the language, culture, customs, and traditions, maintaining national identity, and passing these values on to future generations is the duty of every compatriot.
“Our National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s ideas of national statehood and his activities in the diaspora sphere enable Azerbaijanis around the world to always feel a strong connection to the Motherland with pride and love,” Dadashova said.
In his speech, Asad Asadi, Chairman of the Freedom Association, emphasized that the ability to peacefully celebrate national holidays today is thanks to President Ilham Aliyev, as well as to the martyrs and veterans.
Chair of the International Media Group and director Rahim Sadigbeyli noted that December 31 is a day that unites Azerbaijanis in Northern and Southern Azerbaijan, as well as compatriots living in various countries around the world.
“We are very happy that Azerbaijan’s lands have been liberated from occupation, the country’s territorial integrity has been restored, and former internally displaced persons are returning to their apartments. May our solidarity always endure,” said Javanshir Amir Hashimi, Chairman of the Garabagh Society.
Head of the Northern Cyprus Representation in Stockholm Hakan Aksoy, who also attended the event, congratulated the participants on the occasion, emphasizing that Northern Cyprus and Azerbaijan are friendly countries and will continue their path guided by the principle of “one nation, three states.”
Saadat Karimi, Chair of the Gobustan Intellectual’s Hearth, noted that the main idea of this historic day, included in the calendar by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, is Azerbaijanism and unity.
The event concluded with a concert program. Singer Javid Tabrizli, invited from Ankara, Türkiye, and Gunel Hamdili, who arrived from Azerbaijan, delighted the audience with lively performances.
