The Azerbaijan Formula 1 Grand Prix has increased the flow of tourists from Russia

Russian citizens are actively booking accommodations in Baku for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix period. During the week of September 21–27, hotel demand in the Azerbaijani capital from Russian tourists surged tenfold compared to the same period last year, Auto Mail reports, citing data from the Ostrovok booking service.

Furthermore, demand doubled compared to the previous week. The race dates account for about 20% of all trips made by Russians to Baku in September. The Grand Prix itself will take place from September 24 to 26 on the city circuit in the capital's center. In 2026, the race will mark a milestone for Baku — its tenth anniversary stage.Interest among Russians in Azerbaijan began growing back in early summer.

From May to September, demand for trips to Baku increased by 10% compared to last year, and the country climbed from 14th to 12th place among the most popular foreign destinations for Russian tourists.The average cost of a booked night in Baku in September is around 8,250 rubles (170 manats); however, during the Formula 1 week, it rises to 10,300 rubles (212 manats). Russian tourists most frequently choose four-star hotels, which account for 49% of bookings.According to the service, the main share of travelers consists of couples without children, making up 59% of bookings. Another quarter of Russians travel to Baku alone.

The September event lineup also contributes to the growing tourism interest: in addition to Formula 1, concerts by Katy Perry and Calvin Harris are scheduled to take place in Baku.
