A 711.4 square km area in Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea designated for development of renewable energy sources
Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov signed a decision to designate 711.4 square kilometers of water area in Azerbaijan's sector of the Caspian Sea as a renewable energy zone to facilitate the development of offshore wind power projects and leverage the country's renewable energy potential.
The Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan will conduct the selection of an electricity producer for the renewable energy zone in line with the relevant directives approved by the Presidential Decree of 2 August 2023. Permits for wind power plant construction in the 711.4-square-kilometre renewable energy zone shall be obtained in line with applicable legislation and the requirements of Article 6.7 of the relevant law.
The State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan is required to inform the Cabinet of Ministers within three days of issuing a construction permit or after the expiry of the deadline if the permit is not granted.
The Department of Agriculture and Ecology of the Cabinet of Ministers’ Office has been tasked to oversee the implementation of the Decision.
